New Assistant Secretary Appointed

MR. J. R. ATTERTON, has been appointed Assistant Secretary of the Institution.

Mr. Atterton, who is aged 44, first joined the Institution's staff in 1936 and worked in the Chief Inspector's depart- ment, and subsequently in various departments in the Secretary's general office. He became a principal clerk and in recent months has been assisting the Secretary. During the war he served with the Royal Corps of Signals, when for a period he was employed at the War Office in London.

Mr. Atterton succeeds Mr. D. H. Roff, who retired at the end of 1962 after more than forty years in the service of the Institution. He had held the post of Assistant Secretary since September, 1961. Two other members of the Insti- tution's staff who had also given more than forty years' service retired at the same time. One was Mr. F. W. Stevens, who joined the staff in 1919 and held the post of principal clerk. The other was Mr. R. A. W. Scott, who joined in 1921, at first as motor mechanic at Lowestoft.
