MECHANIC SEES FLARE FROM MOTOR BOAT Hastings, Sussex. At 5.6 on the afternoon of the 4th November, 1962, the motor mechanic noticed a red flare four miles south of the life-boat station.

He informed the honorary secretary, and at 5.21 the life-boat M.T.C was launched in a moderate southerly breeze and a moderate sea. The tide was ebbing. The life-boat found the motor boat Joy, with a crew of four, broken down with engine trouble. She took her in tow to Hastings and reached her station at 6.12..
