TANKER REFLOATED WITH HELP OF LIFE-BOAT Newhaven, Sussex. At 4.20 on the morning of the 16th May, 1962, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that a small vessel was aground between Birling Gap and Belle Toute.

At 4.40 the life-boat Kathleen Mary was launched in a fresh south-westerly wind and a moderate sea. It was low water.

The life-boat found the tanker Ben Hebden of London and helped to refloat her. The life-boat then returned to her station, arriving at 7.30. The master of the tanker made a gift to the crew..
