ESCORT FOR FISHING VESSEL IN GALE Newhaven, Sussex. At 7.32 on the evening of the 23rd January, 1962, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that the fishing vessel Dorothy Margaret had been in difficulties with engine trouble and had gone alongside the Royal Sovereign lightvessel to report her trouble before making for Newhaven. At 7.45 the life-boat Kathleen Mary was launched in a south-westerly gale and a rough sea.

It was low water. The life-boat met the Dorothy Margaret six miles east-northeast of Newhaven and escorted her safely into harbour. The life-boat reached her station at 9.50..
