At 3.20 on the afternoon of the 13th December, 1961 the assistant motor mechanic told the honorary secretary that several fishing boats were unable to enter the harbour. There was a heavy sea at the harbour mouth. At 3.36 the life-boat Grace Darling was launched in a light south-south-westerly wind and a rough sea. The tide was half ebb. The life-boat escorted three fishing boats safely into harbour and reached her station at 5.40..
