A Sailing Dinghy

Barrow, Lancashire. At two o'clock on the afternoon of the 8th October, 1961, a life-boat shore helper informed the coxswain that a sailing dinghy appeared to be in difficulties off Foulney Island. The life-boat Herbert Leigh was launched at 2.20 in a fresh westerly breeze and a choppy sea with her boarding boat in tow. The tide was half ebb. Before the life-boat reached her the sailing dinghy capsized, but another sailing dinghy launched her small boat and rescued the one man aboard. The rescued man was trans- ferred to the life-boat's boarding boat and put ashore at Foulney Island. His dinghy was towed ashore by the life- boat, which reached her station at 3.20..
