Fenit, Co. Kerry. At 2.30 on the afternoon of the 27th August, 1961, one of the yachts competing in a regatta capsized. The two people on board, a man and a woman, clung to the sub- merged boat. A near gale was blowing from the south-west with a rough sea.

At three o'clock the life-boat Hilton Briggs put out. She found the motor cruiser Valentia capsized and rescued her crew of two. With the partly sub- merged cabin cruiser in tow the life-boat returned to the pier at Fenit and reached her station at 6.30..
