Two Boats and Perseverance

Falmouth, Cornwall. At 7.45 on the evening of the 7th August, 1961, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that two small boats returning from the Helford regatta were in diffi- culties in Falmouth Bay. There was a strong easterly breeze blowing with a rough sea. The weather was overcast.

At 7.55 the life-boat Crawford and Constance Conybeare was launched on the ebb tide. She made for the position given, which she reached at 8.5. The coxswain used the oil sprays to mini- mise the effect of the rough seas, and this helped the small boats to reach harbour. The life-boat also escorted the fishing vessel Perseverance to har- bour and then returned to her station, arriving at 9.11..
