The Launch Devotion

Hartlepool, Co. Durham. At 12.40 on the afternoon of the 14th July, 1961, the honorary secretary was informed that a launch engaged for work on a pipe-line two miles north of Hartlepool was in difficulties and needed help. At one o'clock the life-boat The Princess Royal (Civil Service No. 7) was launched on a flood tide in a fresh south-easterly breeze and a rough sea. She came up with the launch Devotion, which had dragged her anchor, and took off the three people on board. She then towed the launch into Hartlepool. The life- boat returned to her station at 2.40.
