Warsash had asked for the life-boat to meet her at ten o'clock to take over the tow of a yacht, which had been picked up in distress off Belle Toute lighthouse.

At 9.35, when the life-boat Kathleen Mary was launched, the tide was flood- ing and there was a fresh south-westerly breeze with a rough sea. The life-boat came up with the minesweeper at 10.15 four miles off Seaford Head and took the yacht Panta-Genesta, which had three people on board, in tow. She then made for her station, which she reached at eleven o'clock..
