Anstruther, Fifeshire. At 7.23 on the evening of the 8th July, 1961, the coast- guard informed the honorary secretary that a boat appeared to be in difficulties three miles off Leven Bay. A fresh west- south-westerly wind was blowing, and the sea was rough. At 7.37 the life-boat Ruby Jackson was launched on a flood tide and made for the position given.

A message was received that a helicopter had taken one man off the casualty.

After some difficulty the life-boat found the motor launch Magpie of Methil, which had run out of fuel, and had four people aboard. The life-boat towed the motor launch to Methil and then returned to her station, arriving at 12.15..
