A Motor Boat

Hartlepool, Co, Durham. At nine o'clock on the evening of the 12thSeptember, 1961, the police informed the honorary secretary that red flares had been seen off the Heugh break- water. The life-boat The Princess Royal (Civil Service No. 7) was launched at 9.45 in a fresh south-westerly breeze and a choppy sea. It was two hours before low water. In the meantime a further message had been received that a small motor boat with two men on board was long overdue from a fishing trip. The life-boat found the motor boat two and a half miles north-north-east of Hartlepool broken down and drift- ing. Her crew of two were transferred to the life-boat, and after taking the boat in tow the life-boat returned to her station, arriving at 11.30..
