Fleetvvood, Lancashire. At 11.30 on the morning of the 18th June, 1961, the life-boat was launched for her usual exercise to coincide with the dinghy races organised by the Blackpool and Fleetwood Yacht Club, which were to be held in the estuary. It was two hours after low water and a fresh to strong north-west wind was blowing. Jt was squally, and the sea was rough. One race was out to sea, and the life-boat followed the race in order to be able to give immediate help to any casualties.

A number of the yachts capsized, and the life-boat was busily engaged in towing capsized boats to the shore and picking up crews from the water. The life-boat finally reached her station at three o'clock that afternoon..
