At 9.5 on the evening of the 13th May, 1961, the coastguard informed the honorary sec- retary that a boy had fallen over the cliffs at Horseshoe Bay and had been seriously injured. At 9.11, when the life- boat Jesse Lumb was launched with the boarding boat in tow, there was no wind.

The sea was calm and the tide flooding.

The life-boat found the boy and tookhim to her station, where a doctor was waiting with an ambulance, arriving at 10.12..
