May Blossom (1)

Barmouth, Merionethshire. At 3.35 on the afternoon of the 5th May, 1961, the coastguard informed the coxswain that the fishing boat May Blossom was in difficulties four miles south-west of Barmouth, and at 3.45 the life-boat The Chieftain was launched. There was a light north-westerly wind, with a moder- ate sea, and it was two hours before low water. The life-boat found an exhausted man, the only person in the May Blossom, which had sunk, clinging to a life-buoy. She rescued him, wirelessed for a doctor and an ambulance to be ready at Barmouth, and landed the man at her station at 5.20..
