Walmer, Kent. At 6.17 on the evening of the 13th June, 1961, the coastguard told the honorary secretary that a Royal Marine conoeist had capsized off Deal.

There was a moderate north-north- westerly wind with a choppy sea and an ebb tide. Seven minutes later the life- boat Charles Dibdin (Civil Service No. 32) was launched. She found the man near Deal Bank buoy, rescued him and took his canoe to Walmer, arriving at 6.46..
