Dover, Kent. At 7.17 on the evening of the 27th of October, 1960, the eastern arm signal station informed the honorary secretary that a man on a bicycle had gone over the wall into the eastern dock. When the life-boat Southern Africa put out at 7.30 to search, the tide was half ebb and there was a fresh south-westerly wind and a choppy sea. The man was found unconscious at 7.35 and taken aboard the life-boat, where artificial respiration was applied. The life-boat took the man to the camber, where he wastransferred to a waiting ambulance, but on arrival at hospital he was found to be dead. The life-boat returned to her station at 8.16..
