Fishing Boats

Bridlington, Yorkshire. At 8.45 on the morning of the 1st of November, 1960, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that nine motor fishing boats were at sea. A south- easterly gale was blowing, and there were fierce rain squalls and a rough sea.

It was arranged that the life-boat Tillie Morrison, Sheffield II should be launched at ten o'clock to escort the fishing boats into harbour. By this time three of the boats were waiting outside the broken water for the tide.

At midday there were eight boats waiting and the life-boat escorted all eight into the harbour. By that time the wind had dropped considerably.

The life-boat returned to her station at three o'clock..
