Dover, Kent. At 10.53 on the night of the 5th of June, 1960, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that a yacht was burning flares a mile and a half off South Foreland. The life-boat Southern Africa put out at eleven o'clock in a gentle south-westerly breeze and a slight sea. The tide was half ebb.
