Skerryvore

Campbeltown, Argyllshire. At 6.30 on the morning of the 3rd of August, 1960, information was received that a yacht was aground in Machrihanish Bay. The life-boat City of Glasgow 11 put out in a fresh-to-strong north-north-westerly breeze and a moderate to rough sea.

It was high water. The life-boat found the yacht Skerryvore aground a quarter of a mile north of Machrihanish Burn with three of her crew of six on board.

A line was passed and connected. Two fishing boats also reached the scene, and with their help the yacht was refloated.

The life-boat arrived back at her station at 12.50 early on the 4th of August.

Rewards to the crew, £36 Is.; rewards to the helpers on shore, £1 9s..
