At 9.30 on the evening of the 7th of August 1960, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that they had a yacht under observation. Seventeen minutes later they asked for the services of the life-boat. The life-boat Grace Darling launched at eight o'clock in a light northerly breeze and a slight sea.
