A Ship's Boat

Margate, Kent. At 6.37 on the even- ing of the 29th of September, 1960, the coastguard informed the honorary sec- retary that a ship's boat was flying a distress signal about a mile and a half east of Kingsgate. The life-boat North Foreland (Civil Service No. 11) was launched at 6.50 in a fresh easterly breeze with a moderate sea and a flood tide. She came up with the boat as darkness was falling. The boat's crewtold the coxswain they did not need help, but the life-boat escorted the boat to North Foreland. She returned to her station at 8.30, but because of weather conditions was not rehoused until 11.30 on the morning of the 2nd of October.

Rewards to the crew, £11 5s.; rewards to the helpers on shore, £10 9s..
