The Smiths Knoll Lightvessel

Great Yarmouth and Gorleston, Norfolk. At 12.13 early on the morn- ing of the 26th of April, 1960, the coast- guard informed the honorary secretary that a member of the crew of the Smiths Knoll lightvessel was uncon- scious and needed a doctor. At 12.40 the life-boat Louise Stephens was launched with a doctor on board. It was two hours before low water.

There was a gentle north-westerly wind, and the sea was smooth. The doctor went aboard the lightvessel and found that the man had died. His body was transferred to the life-boat and landed at Gorleston at 7.20. Rewards to the crew, £19 5s. ; rewards to the helpers on shore, £4 17s. Refunded to the Institution by Trinity House..
