Clytie

Hoylake, Cheshire. Between nine o'clock and 10.50 on the morning of the 12th of June, 1960, the coxswain kept the yacht Clytie, which was lying at anchor in the Swash to the north of Hilbre Island, under observation. Dur- ing this time the weather became worse, and the sea increased rapidly with a spring flood tide. It was there- fore decided to launch the life-boat.

At 11.5 the life-boat Oldham /Fput out to the yacht's assistance in a west- south-westerly gale and a rough sea.

She found the Clytie dragging her anchor, and at the third attempt the coxswain succeeded in bringing the life-boat alongside. The crew of five, who were in a very distressed condition, were rescued and landed at Hoylake, where they were taken to the sailing club. The life-boat was rehoused at 3.30. Rewards to the crew, £9 12s. ; rewards to the helpers on shore, £8 12s..
