Scarborough, Yorkshire. On the morning of the 4th of April, 1960, con- ditions at the entrance to the harbour were deteriorating, and it was decided to launch the life-boat /. G. Graves of Sheffield at 12.55 to escort the local fishing coble Betty into harbour. There was a light north-westerly wind and a heavy ground swell, and the tide was nearly half ebb.
