Whitby, Yorkshire. At 12.30 on the afternoon of the 16th of January, 1960, it was decided to launch the life-boat Mary Ann Hepworth to stand by the local fishing fleet, which was returning to harbour in bad weather. At 12.45 the life-boat was launched in a strong north-north-easterly wind and a rough sea. It was one hour after low water.

The life-boat escorted five fishing vessels to harbour and reached her station at 2.15. Rewards to the crew, £8 15s. ; rewards to the helpers on shore, £1 16s..
