Rafla

Aldeburgh, Suffolk. At 10.15 on the night of the 21st of October, 1959, the coastguard told the honorary secretary that a red flare had been seen a mile and a half north-east of the Sizewell coast- guard look-out. At 10.40 the life-boat The Alfred and Patience Gottwald was launched in a fresh south-westerly wind and a rough sea. The tide was half flood. The life-boat found the motor launch Rafla with four people on board.

The motor boat's engine had broken down and she was taken in tow to Lowestoft. The life-boat then returned to her station, arriving at seven o'clock.
