Newhaven, Sussex. At 12.50 on the afternoon of the 2nd of December, 1959, the fishing vessel Pandora of Newhaven, which had left for the fishing grounds at noon on the 1st of Decem- ber, had not returned, and the local fishermen were worried about her safety. After the coastguard had made checks along the coast the life-boat Kathleen Mary was launched to search for the missing vessel. The weather was cloudy with a moderate south- south-westerly wind blowing and a moderate sea. The tide was half ebb.

The Pandora was found two miles south of Seaford Head, making for New- haven. She was not then in difficulty, although her crew had had trouble with a blocked fuel pipe during the night, which they had cleared.
