Madeleine

Gt. Yarmouth and Gorleston, Norfolk.

At 10.30 on the night of the 29th of December, 1959, the coastguard in- formed the honorary secretary that the Gorton lightvessel had reported a flare seen south-east of the lightvessel. At 10.37 the life-boat Louise Stephens was launched in a slight sea. There was a moderate south-south-westerly wind, and the tide was half ebb. The life- boat found the German motor vessel Madeleine. Her master was unsure of his position and asked for a pilot. The life-boat escorted the vessel until the pilot boat reached her. She then returned to her station arriving at 11.30.
