Swiftsure

Wick, Caithness-shire. At 2.15 on the morning of the 4th of September, 2959, the coastguard told the honorary secretary that a fishing vessel had gone ashore on the north side of Wick harbour in thick fog. At 2.55 the life- boat City of Edinburgh was launched in calm, foggy weather with light south- easterly airs. It was two hours after high water. The life-boat searched along the north side of Wick Bay and found the fishing vessel Swiftsure of Lossiemouth ashore opposite the har- bour entrance. She had a crew of six, and her skipper asked the coxswain to stand by until after low water. The life-boat did so and then returned to her station, arriving at seven o'clock. She put out again at 10.30 to help refloat the vessel, reaching her station finally at 12.30. Rewards to the crew, £18 5s. ; rewards to the helpers on shore, £1 14s..
