Galway Bay. At five o'clock on the afternoon of the 30th of July, 1959, a request was received from the local doctor for the use of the life-boat to convey a child, who urgently needed hospital treatment, from Inishmaan Island to the mainland. As there was no other suitable boat available, the life-boat Mabel Marion Thompson put out at six o'clock in calm weather. The life-boat conveyed the sick child to Rossaveal, where an ambulance was waiting to take the child to hospital.

The life-boat reached her station at 11.59. Rewards to the crew, £12 13s. ; reward to the helper on shore, 17s.
