Hermione
Salcombe, Devon. At 8.45 on the evening of the 10th of August, 1959, the coastguard informed the honorary sec- retary that a motor boat had broken down and was drifting towards Prawle Point. The life-boat Samuel and Marie Parkhouse put out at nine o'clock in a smooth sea. There was a light westerly breeze and the tide was flooding.
While the life-boat was making for the position a message was received that the position of the casualty was off Gara Point. The life-boat found the motor boat Hermione of Salcombe, with five people on board. She took her in tow to Salcombe harbour, arriving at ten o'clock. The owner of the motor boat made a donation to the Institution's funds. Rewards to the crew, £7 ; rewards to the helpers on shore, £1 4s.
