Anstruther, Fifeshire. At 1.40 on the afternoon of the 31st of May, 1959, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that a boat was flying a distress signal near the North Carr beacon. At 1.50 the life-boat James and Ruby Jackson was launched in a moderate sea. There was a moderate south-westerly breeze, visibility was poor, and the tide was ebbing. The life-boat found the fishing boat Thalassa with her engine broken down drifting seawards. She had a crew of three.
