Huiberdina Gijsbertha

Aberdeen. At 2.35 on the afternoon of the 27th of June, 1959, the coast- guard reported that a message had been received from the Dutch vessel De Hoop that another Dutch vessel Huiberdina Gijsbertha of Katwijk a/Kee was aground on the north side of the entrance to Aberdeen harbour. At three o'clock the life-boat James Macfee, on temporary duty at the station, left her moorings in a light variable breeze with a smooth sea and a flood tide. The weather was dull and overcast. Visi- bility was practically nil because of thick fog. The life-boat reached the casualty and found that she had refloated on the rising tide. Her rudder was damaged, and the life-boat took her in tow to harbour. The life-boat reached her station at 5.5. Rewards to the crew, £7 4s. ; reward to the helper on shore, 12s..
