Swanage, Dorset. At 10.7 on the morning of the 17th of May, 1959, the coastguard informed the assistant honor- ary secretary that four canoes on passage from Swanage to Poole appeared to be having difficulty in rounding the Old Harry Rock. As there was a choppy sea the life-boat Edmund and Mary Robinson, which was on temporary duty as the station, was launched at 10.22.

There was a gentle north-easterly wind and an ebb tide. The life-boat found the canoes on a lee shore to the north of the Old Harry Rock. She took on board five canoeists and their four canoes and returned to Swanage, arriving at 11.33. Rewards to the crew, £7 ; rewards to the helpers on shore, £2 12s..
