Portrait on the Cover

THE portrait on the cover is of Coxswain Richard Evans of Moelfre. He was appointed coxswain in 1954 after serving as second coxswain from 1939 to 1954 and as bowman from 1930 to 1939. He was awarded the bronze medal for gallantry for the rescue of the crew of an aircraft who were in a rubber dinghy which was beating up against rocks in October 1943. Since his appointment as bowman Moelfre life-boats have been launched on service 87 times and have rescued 169 lives. The photograph is reproduced by courtesy of Wickens Studio..
