Arranmore, Co. Donegal. On the 1st of January, 1959, the body of a young man from Arranmore, who had been killed in an accident in Wales, was brought to Burtonport, but because of the stormy weather it was not possible to take the body to the island.

The weather had not improved the next day, and in answer to a request from the parents of the young man the life- boat was launched at noon in a north- easterly gale and conveyed the body to the island. The life-boat crew and and helpers did not wish any rewards to be paid..
