The S.S. Cardiff Brook

Great Yarmouth and Gorleston, Norfolk. At 6.45 on the evening of the 20th of December, 1958, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that there was a badly injured man aboard the S.S. Cardiff Brook of London. A doctor had been taken out to her by a pilot boat, but the life-boat was urgently needed to bring the man ashore. At 6.55 the life-boat Louise Stephens was launched in a heavy swell.

There was a strong southerly wind and an ebb tide. The life-boat went along- side the steamer, and after great diffi- culty because of the swell the man was safely lowered into the life-boat on a stretcher. He was landed at 7.22 and taken to hospital. Rewards to the crew, £13 ; rewards to the helpers on shore, £5 12s. 6d..
