Southend-on-Sea, Essex. At 6.2 on the morning of the 28th of December, 1958, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that a sick man on board the tanker Lonn of Bergen needed medical attention immediately.

The life-boat Greater London II (Civil Service No. 30} was launched in calm weather at 7.10 with a doctor on board.

The tide was ebbing. The life-boat met the tanker east of the pier and went alongside to put the doctor aboard.

At the doctor's request the sick man was taken ashore. The life-boat reach- ed her station at 8.15. Rewards to the crew, £7 10s. ; rewards to the helpers on shore, £3 5s..
