The Converted Ship's Boat Judorka

Mumbles, Glamorganshire. At 1.52 on the morning of the 1st of September, 1958, the coastguard told the honorary secretary that the converted ship's boat Judorka of Swansea had not returned to her berth in the river.

Relations of the boat's crew, who numbered four, had informed the police that the Judorka had been due to return at ten o'clock the evening before, and after further enquiries had been made it was decided to launch the life- boat. At 2.55 the life-boat William Gammon (Manchester and District XXX) was launched in a calm sea.

There was a moderate south-easterly wind and it was low water. At 4.37 the life-boat sighted the Judorka nine hundred yards off the west pier. The boat's propeller was fouled, and she was taken in tow and safely berthed in the river. The life-boat then returned to her •station, arriving at 5.50. Rewards to the crew, £10 17s. ; rewards to the helpers on shore, £6 16s..
