Padstow, Cornwall. At 6.46 on the evening of the 29th of August, 1958, a message was received by the honorary secretary that calls for help had been heard coming from a boat off Pentine Head. At 7.5 the no. 1 life-boat Joseph Hiram Chadwick put out in a smooth sea, with a gentle south- westerly wind blowing and a flood tide.
