Ballyhalbert of Belfast was aground hah0 a mile north of Ardrossan. At three o'clock the life-boat James and Barbara Aitken put out in a rough sea. There was a strong west-south-westerly gale and it was high water. The life-boat came up with the Ballyhalbert and stood by her until her crew of twelve had safely walked ashore at low water.
