Padstow, Cornwall. At 1.25 early on the morning of 10th of January, 1958, the Trevose Head coastguard informed the honorary secretary that flashing lights had been seen nineteen miles north- east-by-nprth of Pentire Head. The no. 2 life-boat Bassett Green was launched at two o'clock in a very rough sea. There was a fresh westerly gale and the tide was ebbing. The life-boat went to the position and searched a large area but found nothing and was recalled at 6.35. At 8.45 the life-boat developed engine trouble and the no. 1 life-boat Lloyds, on temporary duty at the station, put out. She found the no. 2 life-boat and towed her to Pad- stow, arriving at 4.45.
