Wick, Caithness-shire. At 9.50 on the night of the 18th of January, 1958, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that a fishing vessel was ashore in Sinclair Bay. At 10.15 the life-boat City of Edinburgh was launched in a moderate sea. There was a fresh northerly gale, with heavy snow show- ers, and it was high water. The life- boat found the steam trawler Jean Stephen of Aberdeen, with a crew of thirteen. Her decks were awash and heavy seas were breaking over her.

The life-boat tried a number of times to come alongside, but without success, and she stood by until the trawler's crew eventually scrambled ashore with the help of the coastguard.
