A Rowing Boat
Beaumaris, Anglesey. On the morn- ing of the 29th of January, 1958, the coxswain saw a rowing boat with three men on board in difficulties. They had gone out to the sandbanks off the mouth of the River Ogwen to collect mussels. With the rising tide and a strong southerly wind the boat began to drift seawards, and as they had no anchor on board the men tied the boat to one of the stakes of the old Bangor weir. The life-boat Field Marshal and Mrs. Smuts put out at noon in a moderate sea. She reached the 16-feet rowing boat and found the three men exhausted. They were taken on board the life-boat and given re- freshment. The life-boat towed therowing boat to Bangor pier, where the three men were landed, and reached her station at 2.30. Rewards to the crew, £12 5s. ; rewards to the helpers on shore, £2 17s..
