Vera

Sunderland, Co. Durham.—At 1.56 on the afternoon of the 22nd of Decem- ber, 1957, the coastguard informed the honorary secretary that the local fishing coble Vera, with a crew of three, appeared to be in difficulties one mile east-north-east of the look-out. The life-boat Edward and Isabella Irwin was launched, with the second coxswain in command, at 2.20 in a rough sea.

There was a moderate south-south- westerly gale, and the tide was flooding.

The life-boat found the Vera and took her in tow, arriving at her station at 4.30. Rewards to the crew, £10 10s. ; rewards to the helpers on shore, £2 8s..
