Douglas, Isle of Man. At 10.15 on the night of the 2nd of October, 1957, the harbour master reported that a flare had been seen two and a half miles off Douglas Head. At 10.25 the life- boat R. A. Colby Cubbin No. 1 was launched in a moderate swell. There was a gentle westerly breeze blowing and the tide was ebbing. The life-boat found the motor boat Onward, with a crew of four, adrift two miles east- south-east of Douglas Head.
