Mercurius H.
Dungeness, Kent. At 5.30 on the morning of the 26th of November, 1957, a member of the life-boat crew reported that a vessel was ashore a mile and a half west of the life-boat station.
The life-boat Mabel E. Holland was launched at 5.45 in a smooth sea. A light westerly breeze was blowing and the tide was ebbing. The life-boat came up with the motor vessel Mercurius H of Rotterdam, with a crew of eleven. The master asked the coxswain to stand by and help to re- float his vessel. The attempts failed and the life-boat returned to her station, arriving at 2.45. The Mer- curius H refloated the next day. Re- wards to the crew, £28 5s. ; rewards to the helpers on shore, £21 3s..
