Runswick, Yorkshire. At 11.50 on the morning of the 31st of December, 1957, there was a rough sea and an ebbing tide, and the honorary secretary considered it would be dangerous for the Staithes cobles to try and reach theharbour unescorted. At 12.15 the life- boat The Elliott Gill was launched.

She escorted two fishing cobles to harbour through very heavy surf and reached her station at 2.15. Rewards to the crew, £9 ; rewards to the helpers on shore, £9 15s..
