Peace and Plenty

Newhaven, Sussex.—At 12.45 on the afternoon of the 5th of August, 1957, the coastguard telephoned that a fish- ing boat was in difficulties with a fouled propeller off Cuckmere haven and needed help. At 12.50 the life- boat Cecil and Lilian Philpott was launched, with the second coxswain in command, in a slight sea with a gentle south-easterly breeze blowing.

It was low water. The life-boat found the fishing boat Peace and Plenty with a crew of two and took her in tow to Newhaven, arriving at 1.50.— Rewards to the crew, £5.; rewards to the helpers on shore, £3 12s..
